Friday 31st March 2023

Dear Parent / Annwyl Rhiant,

Spring Term 2023

I hope that this letter finds you well.

The Spring Term has been ‘jam-packed’ with wonderful learning opportunities. The children have grasped this learning with real energy and enthusiasm; they most certainly have earned the two-week Easter break. I’m sure that you would have enjoyed seeing this learning captured in the children’s books.

Next term we are very much looking forward to more exciting and engaging learning opportunities. Our ‘Green Week’ will be launched on Monday 24th April. The children will enjoy a timetable of eco-related activities.

On Thursday 20th April we will enjoy whole school Eid celebrations. The children can wear traditional/party clothes to school for the day.

On Tuesday 2nd May we will begin our ‘Coronation Week’. Our learning will culminate in a ‘Coronation Theme Day’ and a special assembly on Friday 5th May.

Easter Celebrations

Our final assembly of the Spring Term was brought to life by the wonderful Easter home learning entries on display. The children were able to share and celebrate both the wonderful Easter Bonnet/Hat entries and the ‘Eggceptional’ decorated eggs. Thank you for supporting the children with this collaborative home learning.

Family Learning

This term our ‘Family Learning’ project has continued to gather momentum. It has been wonderful to welcome families into school to learn alongside their children. Outdoor and Creative Art projects with Craig and Pat have been hugely successful. Thank you to the families who were able to join us. Foundation Phase parents can sign up by following this link: https://forms.office.com/e/KhRcALJ2fB

Lead Creative Schools Project

Dosbarth Tulip and Dosbarth Maple have enjoyed their Arts Council of Wales Project this term. They were delighted to share their learning with families during the class assemblies this week. I’m sure that those of you who were able to attend witnessed both the children’s enthusiasm and the development of creative habits.

Maesglas Values

A Maesglas Primary approach to ‘values’ has been initiated this term, led by our School Council in partnership with Gaer Primary School. An assembly at the start of each month ‘launches’ a new value. ‘Kindness’ was the value in the month of March. It has been a pleasure to see the children demonstrating this value and receiving certificates in our weekly Golden Assembly.

Parent Consultations

We were delighted to see so many of you in attendance for the ‘Teacher/Parent Consultations’ this week. I hope that you found this in person session informative.

Class Assemblies

We were delighted to be able to invite families into school to watch ‘class assemblies’ at the end of this term. The children were excited to present their Spring Term learning. Thank you for making every effort to attend school to share in these sessions.

Rock Uk

This term our Year 6 children enjoyed a fantastic residential experience at Rock UK. They participated wholeheartedly in this outdoor education experience and were excellent ambassadors for us all at Maesglas Primary. I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly say a huge thank you to our school staff for giving their own time to allow the children to enjoy this experience.

Attendance

We have enjoyed celebrating excellent attendance this term. Weekly attendance cup winners have been announced and we were delighted to announce our second termly ipad winner in our assembly today. Thank you for striving to ensure that your child attends school for every possible session.

Partnerships

We have continued to enjoy working effectively in partnership with Newport County in the Community, Newport Gwent Dragons, Gwent Music, Upbeat and Outdoor Coaching this term. This collaboration has enabled our children to enjoy a holistic curriculum aligned to our Curriculum for Wales principles.
