Estyn Inspection Recommendations 

I hope that this letter finds you well. 

Following an Estyn Inspection, all schools are required to notify parents/carers of the action that has been taken, and is intended to be taken, in response to the Estyn recommendations. 

Please see below a summary of our action/next steps: 

  Estyn Recommendations 
R1  Address the safeguarding concerns identified during the inspection (Staff across both schools in the federation are not clear about how to report or record concerns they may have about pupils or adults). 

Next Steps/Action: 

  • All school-based staff and volunteers revisit professional learning (03.12.25/21.01.26) addressing procedures for reporting and recording safeguarding concerns, including those specifically relating to allegations made against professionals. Professional learning will include coverage of a range of relevant safeguarding scenarios. 
  • Update the safeguarding policy to ensure that it reflects to necessary procedures for reporting and recording safeguarding concerns. 
  • School and LA to ensure that there are regular informal opportunities to dip sample individuals (Contracted staff/agency staff/Chartwells staff/volunteers) understanding of reporting and recording safeguarding concerns. 
R2  Sharpen self-evaluation and improvement strategies to focus better on understanding and developing pupils’ learning 

 

Next Steps/Action: 

  • Revisit the EAS Self Evaluation Documentation and ETLF to sharpen self-evaluation and improvement strategies and supporting documentation with an increased emphasis on pupils’ learning  
  • Documentation to include:  
  • Self Evaluation criteria/focus/analysis 
  • Summary Reports/Action and Recommendations 

 

 

R3  Address inconsistencies in teachers’ practice and ensure that they develop pupils’ independent learning skills more effectively 

 

Next Steps: 

 

  • Undertake External and Internal Staff Professional Learning ‘Developing Independent Learners’-Spring 2026 (28.01.26/25.02.26) and Summer 2026 to create: 
  • A shared vision for independent learning 
  • A tangible independent learning framework 
  • A shared understanding of the 3 Enablers in promoting independent learning 
  • A common language of ‘independent learning’ for staff and children   
  • An improved understanding of Froebelian Principles
